Also known as: Philip Qipanniq.
Philip Kripanik was probably born in the early 1920s, probably in Cape Fullerton. In the book Uqalurait: An Oral History of Nunavut by John Bennett et al, he states: "I am uncertain how many names I have. Qipanniq (one who easily hates) is not my real name: it was my namesake's nickname. That is what I have been told. Once I started to be called by the nickname of my namesake, I took on the name."(He has many other quotations in the book as well.)
Philip Kripanik lived in Repulse Bay through the 1940s and moved to the Igloolik / Hall Beach area in the 1950s, where they lived in qamaqs (sod houses). He was married to Rhoda Nagjugaq. They had eleven (or seven?) children and adopted five more.
Kripanik is remembered as outspoken; a man who spoke his mind. One grandchild writes “My grandfather always had something to say about anything and everything."
Philip Kripanik died in 2004, and may have been the last surviving child of George Cleveland.

Note: Kripanik's brother Abraham Tagornak (1926-2007) (aka Tagurnaaq) of Repulse Bay is believed by some to be a posthumous son of George Cleveland, although many believe he was fathered by Qovik.
